A long line of ‘50s and ’60s show cars greeted the hundreds of supporters, donors and volunteers of Foothill Unity Center, as the organization held its 15th Annual Golden Plate Awards at Trinity Ballroom in Rosemead, to honor its volunteers and supporters.

“The Foothill Unity Center could not do all that we do, if we did not have the support of the community, of all the people who are here, and all of their organizations,” said Betty McWilliams, executive director of Foothill Unity Center. “This is our way of saying ‘Thank you,’ and of promoting humanitarianism.”

Cynthia Kurtz, president and chief executive officer of the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership, was given the “Heart in Hand Humanitarian” Golden Plate, and Colleen McEvoy, who hosts the group’s annual holiday benefit party, was given the “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” volunteer award.

Simplicity Bank received the “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” corporate award, and Temple Beth David, Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, Weizmann Day School, and the Jewish Federation of the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, received the faith-based “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” award.

ABC7 Eyewitness News entertainment reporter George Pennacchio served as the evening’s emcee, as he has done several times before. Rev. Neil Tadken, of St. Luke’s, Monrovia, emceed the live auction.

The Foothill Unity Center, through its office and more than 3,000 volunteers, coordinates multiple agencies in the San Gabriel Valley to provide food, clothing, food stamps, crisis assistance, access to health care, motel vouchers, transportation and work experience, to people and families in need.
