Pasadena nonprofit STEAM:CODERS is the 2016 recipient of the “Non-Profit of the Year Award” for Congresswoman Judy Chu’s 27th Congressional District, as part of the 7th Annual Congressional Leadership Awards.

STEAM:CODERS teaches science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) to underrepresented and disadvantaged students of color, providing them with an early introduction to academic and career opportunities in the STEAM-related fields.

The award is a testament to the positive impact STEAM:CODERS has on the community, especially to the students who want to advance their education and career prospects. This year nine honorees were awarded for their respective services in the district. The ceremony took place on July 23rd, 2016, in Alhambra.

STEAM:CODERS was founded in 2014 and partners with schools, public and private businesses entities to bring the STEAM disciplines to Title 1 schools, disadvantaged and underrepresented K-12 students of color.
