In the full-sized sedan segment there is a certain criteria upon which all cars are judged, is it roomy, is it comfortable, is it quiet, and does it have lots of gadgets. The 2016 Toyota Avalon Limited hits the mark and then some.
There are five trim levels for the 2016 Toyota Avalon: XLE, XLE Plus, XLE Premium, Touring and Limited. This review will focus on the Limited trim level.
The Limited trim is at the head of the pack and includes xenon headlights, auto-dimming side mirrors with puddle lamps, automatic wipers, ambient cabin lighting, tri-zone automatic climate control, upgraded leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat, eight-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, heated rear seats, a rear power sunshade, Safety Connect and an 11-speaker JBL premium sound system. This is in addition to 18-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and a sport-tuned suspension.
Optional on the Limited is a Safety Sense package that adds adaptive cruise control, a lane departure warning system, lane-keeping assist, frontal collision warning, automatic pre-collision braking and automatic high-beam headlight control. My model was equipped with this option and for an extra $500.00 it’s well worth it.
Making the Avalon Limited go is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 268 horses and 248 pound-feet of torque. Equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, the power is sent to the front wheels. Mileage estimates are 21/city, 31/highway and 24/combined mpg.
The interior is luxurious with wood accents and soft-touch trims. Seats are comfortable and the cabin is devoid of any road noises. Rear seat passengers will have nothing to complain about as there is plenty of head and leg room to go around. The trunk is large with 16 cubic feet of space and a wide opening for easy access.
On the center console are all the cord hook-ups and the cabin is full of storage spaces for all those electronic things we carry nowadays. A 7-inch touchscreen come standard and includes swipe capability, voice recognition, and a customizable home screen.
With the V6 engine the Avalon Limited makes merging into highway traffic a breeze and it will do it quietly to boot. Steering is true and the drive firm.
