The Langham Huntington, Pasadena challenged its staff members to reach 10,000 steps per day as part of “The 10,000 Steps Challenge!” and handed out pedometers on April 2 to help them reach that goal.

10,000 steps is approximately eight kilometers (five miles) of walking during the day, also the equivalent of 30 to 60 minutes or more of walking per day. That equals the minimum daily exercise recommendation by most health authorities to reduce health risks, explained the Langham’s Denise Lengyeltoti.

There are countless physical activities, Lengyeltoti said, but walking has the lowest dropout rate of them all. It’s the simplest positive change you can make to effectively improve your heart health.
