The Junior League of Pasadena held their annual Simply Speaking event at the San Gabriel Country Club this Saturday. The event celebrates women community members, leaders and entrepreneurs. This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the Junior League.

The Simply Speaking event included a silent auction – with prizes like a trip to Hawaii – and gift certificate raffle to Place Vendome Jewelers. All the proceeds went towards furthering women’s education, empowerment and community building.

The event featured Meaghan Rose, co-founder and CEO of Rocksbox, as their keynote speaker. She shared her experiences as a fashion tech entrepreneur and how she feels raising a son has helped make her a better CEO. Rocksbox is the “Netflix of jewelry” and gives women a chance to experiment with their accessory options before committing to a piece.

The afternoon also honored Akila Gibbs, Executive Director of the Pasadena Senior Center with the Community Impact Award. Gibbs’ focus on senior care and community building has helped improve the lives of many seniors and her work at the Senior Center is a continuation of the Junior League’s commitment to public service.

Finally, Sharon Thralls was awarded the Nancy Reed Payne Achievement Award for her commitment to the Junior League and a friend accepted the award on her behalf.

The event reinforced the Junior League’s commitment to women and their continued support of the Pasadena community.
