Rosemary’s Children’s Services, a nonprofit that helps support children and families, held its 53rd annual Star Chefs Benefit at the Rose Bowl this Saturday. The delicious event features 13 gourmet chefs and beverage vendors plus a silent and live auction. The event was started by Julia Childs and has continued to grow and become a community event in the past 53 years.
Jana Trew, the Executive Director of Rosemary’s Children’s Services, thanked the community for their support and honored CEO Lisa Fujimoto and the Change a Life Foundation with the Golden Star Award. The foundation has given over 5,450 grants to help support youth.
Police Chief Phillip Sanchez also spoke and called the community to work together to support families and children, “Rosemary’s Children’s Services gives these girls the chance to live the American Dream,” he said.
His words rang true when a resident of Rosemary’s Children’s Services shared her poems with guests. Her emotional poems made it clear how important these services are to children and families.
Last, but not least, the night was filled with an exciting array of Star Chefs. From vegan, gluten-free brownies by My Sweet Cupcake to truffle mac ‘n cheese provided by POP! Champagne bar – there was no shortage of extraordinary food and drink. City Cafe offered potato chips with French Onion Dip, El Cholo served vegetarian tamales with mole and the Altadena Ale & Wine House even brought a bottle of reserve Grand Cru as well as three beers from Figueroa Mountain Brewing and Sushi Roku offered handcrafted sushi.
Despite all the excitement over the food and drink, as Lisa Fujimoto said, “Tonight is about helping the youth and helping them see that they are valued.”
