If you thought ice cream just came scooped in cones, you should be excited to know that you’re wrong.

In Hawaii, the craze (if you could call it that– the tradition is quite long standing) is to top scoops of creamy ice cream with flavored shaved ice.  You’d think the ice would only water down the ice cream, but instead it creates an interesting texture you’ve never experienced before.

Lucky Pasadenans can now get a taste of of the Hawaiian trend at Blockheads Shavery, which opened mid-December.  They call their treats “Snow Cream,” but we just call them yummy.

Blockheads Shavery offers a wide array of flavors, all created using the freshest ingredients, guaranteeing no artificial flavors. Their menu changes as the seasons do, ensuring that only the best ingredients go into their special blends.

From green tea to cantaloupe and avocado, Blockheads Shavery serves up unique flavors paired with an array of toppings like almond jelly, chocolate chips, coconut flakes, egg pudding, honey boba, and red beans, among others, and drizzles like caramel and chocolate, and coconut, mango, and strawberry purees.

Now who’s up for some taro root ice cream with coconut flakes?
