Sex, religion, and politics collide as six Pakistani-American Muslim women air their “dirty lingerie” in the sixty minute comedic play “Dirty Paki Lingerie” by Aizzah Fatima to be presented at Pasadena’s USC Pacific Asia Museum on Sunday, March 29.
Set in post 9/11 America, the play depicts the stories of six Pakistani-American Muslim women ranging in age from a six year old girl to a sixty-five year old woman at the chaotic juncture of two different cultures. Cross-cultural sparks fly and preconceptions about Muslim women, sex, and politics are hilariously shattered in the show.
The Wall Street Journal says “Breaks down stereotypes of Muslim women in America” and that reviewers call a “must-see” production. Playing to sold-out houses in New York, Toronto, Pakistan, and Edinburgh Fringe Festival, “Dirty Paki Lingerie” transcends boundaries of culture, religion, and gender, moving and entertaining audiences with its unique and universal appeal.
A rich, sexy, and infectiously entertaining mosaic of the sublime, the comic, the poetic, and the political. This presentation is sponsored by Pakistan Arts Council of USC Pacific Asia Museum.
The event starts with tea at 5:30 p.m. followed by the introduction and performance at 6:10 p.m., and a book signing with Fatima lastly at 7:30 p.m.
This program is included with museum admission and is free for museum members.
