Bobby Hundley, Producing Artistic Director for the SGVMT, announced “Rock Operas and Blockbusters” the second concert in the Broadway Bound Series celebrating the best of Broadway through the decades for Saturday, November 12 at Cleaver Hall at Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel. There will be two performances, at 3 PM and at 7 PM.

The show will be a reprise of Broadway’s biggest blockbusters from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Some of these shows include: Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, A Chorus Line, Miss Saigon, 42nd Street, and many more! Five performers have been especially selected by Ray Rochelle, Managing Director, and have sung these same songs in productions across the nation. These fantastic singers are Devin Archer, Amy Lawrence, Cassandra Murphy, Tyler P. Ruebensaal, and Cassie Simone. Accompaniment and arranging are provided by Maestro Jake Anthony.

Mr. Archer has been seen in the Las Vegas and North American touring companies of Mamma Mia!, Les Miserables, Tarzan and RENT! Ms. Lawrence has appeared internationally in opera and musical theatre including as the lead in Hail Poertry! For Opera A La Carte. Ms. Murphy performed the role of Eva Peron in Evita at Cabrillo Music Theatre, Fantine in Les Miserables at La Mirada and Ellen in Miss Saigon. Mr. Ruebensaal is frequently seen in Disney productions around the world and completed a role in the smash hit Recorded in Hollywood at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. Ms. Simone received rave reviews for her recent role as Esmeralda in La Mirada Theatre’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. She has also appeared in West Side Story for the San Francisco Symphony and in Frozen: Live at the Hyperion.

These concerts continue SGVMT’s mission of promoting and preserving musical theatre in the community. The Broadway Bound Series will span over 75 years of Broadway musicals and delight audiences with music from over fifty shows!

“We have a pretty diverse audience and we get feedback from some guests asking for more classic, toe tapping shows and other guests asking for the new, contemporary shows,” says Ray Rochelle, managing director, adding, “These performances were the perfect way for us to offer something for everyone.”

Producing Artistic Director Bobby Hundley’s vision for SGVMT is that it will serve as a cultural hub for the San Gabriel Valley, where we can build our community one musical at a time. “Hopefully we can do our part to expose the community to a wider range of Broadway shows with these three wonderful concerts and inspire them to go out and see some more musicals in the community,” says Hundley. “Think of it like an abridged version of the Best of Broadway.”

This incredible performance will have an extra treat in store for those in attendance. The master craftsman roasters of San Gabriel’s own Black Drop Coffee will be sampling their delicious coffee for patrons along with KM Product’s handmade, gluten free Swiss cookie rolls Les Audacieux!

Cleaver Hall is located at 535 West Roses Road, San Gabriel. Tickets, at $35 apiece, can be ordered at [email protected] or by calling (626) 272-2460. For further information, please check the sgvmusictheatre.org website.
