The public is invited to “Spring Into Wellness,” a free community health and wellness fair 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Jackie Robinson Community Center, 1020 N. Fair Oaks Ave. The health fair is being held as part of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Month and is sponsored by the City’s Public Health Department, the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Pasadena Mental Health Advisory Committee.

The event features free games, arts and crafts, food, raffles, demonstrations, educational workshops, and display booths from several community partners.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, www.nimh.nih.gov, one in five children between the ages of 13 and 18 has, or will have, a serious mental illness. Through this festival, the Pasadena Public Health Department, www.cityofpasadena.net/PublicHealth, hopes to raise awareness about the importance of childhood mental health and wellbeing

“This will be a wonderful opportunity for families and youth to learn more about mental health and the resources available to them in the Pasadena community,” said Public Health Department Director Michael Johnson. “We want to empower them to break through the stigma surrounding mental health by participating in a family friendly event in a fun, safe environment.”

More information about Spring into Wellness Festival is online at www.facebook.com/pasadenapublichealth. This event is partially funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), www.samhsa.gov/children.
