The Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) is pleased to announce that the inaugural California Visionary Gala will honor curator, author, and art historian Patricia Trenton, PhD, on October 15, 2016, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m at The Gamble House (4 Westmoreland Pl., Pasadena).  The PMCA Board of Directors will present the California Visionary Award of Excellence to Dr. Trenton at an exclusive dinner event at Pasadena’s historic Gamble House. The California Visionary Gala is hosted biennially and honors an individual or group who has made significant contributions to the study and preservation of California art. Proceeds from the event benefit the California Visionary Fund, which preserves and promotes the state’s rich artistic vision, furthering the research and study of California art and design through PMCA-organized exhibitions, publications, and educational outreach programs.

Patricia Trenton, PhD, is one of California’s great art historians, independent curators, and art consultants. During her work as a curator in American art museums, including the PMCA, Denver Art Museum, Irvine Museum, Autry Museum of the American West, and Laguna Art Museum, Dr. Trenton’s seminal research and published texts have ranged from focused analysis on the works of Joseph Kleitsch and Edgar Payne to more comprehensive texts surveying the imprint of female artists in California and elucidating key historical movements, such as California Impressionism. Trenton will curate the 2017 PMCA exhibition The Golden Twenties: Portraits and Figure Paintings by Joseph Kleitsch and author the accompanying catalogue.

The California Visionary Gala will be an elegant affair hosted at one of Pasadena’s most cherished National Historic Landmarks, the Gamble House. It will feature a brief tour of the Gamble House, passed hors d’oeuvres with wine sponsored by Buttonwood Farm Winery & Vineyard and craft beers by Stone Brewing, live music, a California-inspired three-course meal crafted by David Sutton, and renowned special guest speakers—including Dr. Trenton’s longtime friend and Historical Collections Council of California Art’s President, Robert Ehrlich; and the Autry Museum of the American West’s Chief Curator and Marilyn B. and Calvin B. Gross Curator of Visual Arts, Amy Scott, PhD—who will reflect on the historian’s life and career.

The Gala Committee includes: Barbara Alexander & Thomas B. Stiles II, Yvonne Boseker, Simon Chiu, Jeff Dutra, Bob & Susan Ehrlich, Robert & Nadine Hall, Reed & Chris Halladay, Scot Levitt, Peter & Gail Ochs, Gayle Roski, Amy Scott, Herb & Erlene Seymour, Scott Shields, George & Irene Stern, and Ruth Westphal.

Individual tickets are $350 per person and can be purchased by calling Brianna Smyk at (626) 568-3665 ext. 12 or online at pmcaonline.org/support where a full list of support levels and event details are also available.
