The Pasadena Unified magnet school team presented to Innovate Pasadena Nov. 6 to connect magnet school staff with local technology and business leaders who can provide expertise and advisory guidance in developing and strengthening innovative, educational programs.
PUSD currently has four thematic magnet schools: Jackson STEM Dual Language Magnet Academy, Washington Elementary STEM Magnet, Eliot Arts Magnet, and Washington STEAM Magnet Academy.
In reaching out to Innovate Pasadena and other community organizations, PUSD magnet schools are working to build relationships with community partners who are practicing experts in the field. Authentic partnerships make learning fun and relevant as students connect learning to real-world applications.
At magnet schools, students are engaged in rigorous and relevant learning. Teachers at PUSD’s magnet schools undergo intensive professional development to integrate science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Students think creatively and work collaboratively to understand the world around them and design innovations to solve real-world problems.
These programs are enhanced thanks to community partnerships. Students gain real-world experience from working professionals thanks to magnet school partnerships with renowned educational and community organizations including: Caltech, JPL, Armory Center for the Arts, The Music Center, A Noise Within, Lineage Dance, Little Kids Rock, The Pasadena Playhouse, The Huntington Library, Trash for Teaching, and Art Center College of Design.
