Founded in 2003, the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra is comprised of nearly 120 student musicians ages 8-18, from over 60 schools throughout the greater Los Angeles area. In addition to attending weekly orchestra rehearsals and taking private music lessons, LAYO students give back to their communities by teaching music to younger students, volunteering at hospitals, writing columns for their school or local newspapers as well as excelling in scholastic and athletic pursuits. LAYO has been featured on KCAL–CBS TV News, LA Times, and on KUSC and KPFK. Many of the orchestra’s alumni have gone on to continue their music education at Juilliard, Cornell University, Berklee College of Music, UCLA, USC, Harvard and New England Conservatory.

LAYO toured internationally to Vienna and Prague in 2015, performing at the world renowned Haydnsaal Esterhazy Palace, MuTH, Konzertsaal der Wiener Sangerknaben and Rudolfinum “Dvorak Hall”. Closer to home, they have performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Saban Theatre and Zipper Hall at the Colburn School. The orchestra makes its home at the Encino Community Center for Sunday afternoon rehearsals, which are always open to the public. To reserve concert tickets in advance, email [email protected] .
