Local business and civic leaders will be spending the day in the principal’s office on Wednesday, October 26th for the eleventh annual Pasadena Unified School District’s (PUSD) “Principal for a Day” program. Sponsored and coordinated by the Pasadena Educational Foundation, the program matches the talent and expertise of local community members with a school principal.
Since 2006, more than 325 community leaders have participated in this nationwide program used to build stronger relationships among schools, businesses, and the wider community. Participants spend a morning on campus shadowing a PUSD school principal, giving them a rare and valuable perspective of running a public school.

“Principal for a Day creates a means for impactful collaboration between the business community and Pasadena Unified schools,” said Superintendent Brian McDonald. “It connects the talent, resources and great ideas of the Pasadena area with school leaders, teachers and students to create new solutions and promote innovation and growth that will continue making PUSD a top choice in education.”

This year guest principals include: Mike deHilster, Program Officer of Pasadena Community Foundation. Jamila Hunter, Network Development Executive of ABC Television Network. Elizabeth Jones, President and Co-Founder of Institute for Educational Advancement. Paul Little, CEO and President of Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Congressional Gold Medal recipient, Dr. Terrance Roberts, a member of Little Rock Nine.

After a day on campus, the 2016 class of “Principal for a Day” graduates will gather for a luncheon and meet other principals and community leaders at Altadena Town & Country Club to share their experiences. Molly Munger a Founding Co-director of Advancement Project, a public policy change organization rooted in the civil rights movement will serve as this year’s keynote speaker.
