In October, most people think about Halloween but The Langham Pasadena reminded us that October is also the month to raise awareness about Juvenile Diabetes though One Walk.

Each year, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund’s One Walk brings together thousands of people to change the futures of everyone living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Many have T1D themselves, and many more are friends, family, or coworkers of someone challenged by this disease. No matter what their connection is, they fundraise and walk because they believe in a world where T1D no longer exists. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin–a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle.

The Langham Huntington Pasadena chose the week of October 19th-25th to show a commitment to “The World” by organizing activities to promote children stricken by Juvenile Diabetes. Their goal was to build ownership, pride and enjoyment. They held bake sales with home baked goods to raise money for JDRF.

Following the colleague-run “Bake Sale” on October 23rd they participated in One Walk as “The Langham Legends Team” on Sunday, October 25. Through these and future fundraising efforts, we have the power to “turn Type One into Type None.”
