America loves its pie. The selection of pie is overwhelming. From fruit pies like apple, blueberry and pumpkin, to cream pies such as, banana cream, coconut cream and chocolate silk and even savory pies, like shepard’s pie and chicken pot pie. But pie wouldn’t be pie without the crust.

Like the base of a house, the crust is vital to the pie as a whole.

Recently The Seventh Annual Good Food Pie Contest took place at The Fowler Museum at UCLA. There were many different categories and the winner of the category for “Best Crust in Town” went to Know Reality Pie in Los Angeles.

Know Reality Pie doesn’t take any shortcuts with their crusts or fillings. Their pies change seasonally but the crust stays the same. This fall, try Salted Caramel Pecan Pie with a pumpkin cream cheese whipped cream and the Old Fashioned Pumpkin Pie with either a traditional or gingersnap crust.

If you are in the mood for something sweet you may prefer the Lemon Basil White Chocolate otherwise known as the “When Harry Met Sally”, which the eatery describes as “a little taste of Los Angeles sunshine with a slice of heaven . . . “on the side.”

Another unique yummy treat they offer is the hand pie. They have an impeccable crust-to-filling ratio and come in either savory or sweet. Go ahead, indulge in the flaky goodness of a gourmet hand pie or share it with someone else who appreciates the value of baked goodness.

With the holidays coming up, it’s the perfect time to share some pie, or just keep it to yourself. Whichever flavor you choose know that good crust is a must.
