For the first time, Immaculate Heart High School will offer a coeducational summer school program for all students in grades 9-12. Additionally, its program will pair traditional academic offerings with a mix of enrichment classes for a range of interests.

“It’s exciting for Immaculate Heart to unveil a new program that’s open to everyone, especially because we’re offering some really cool classes,” said IHHS Summer School Director Michelle Bowen. “There’s even a hiking and orienteering class that I want to take!”

The Hiking and Orienteering class, for example, will introduce students to navigating with a topographic map and compass, as well teach students about wilderness safety.

Other unique offerings include A Century of Cinema: Film History Decade by Decade, which will provide students with an overview of cinematic history by examining key films from the Silent Era to the Postmodern; Comparative Politics, in which students will learn how international governments operate and impact global society; and Voice Overs, which will give students the opportunity to learn the techniques and tools that casting directors and agents look for in new talent.

The high school program will run from June 19 through July 21, with two and five-week courses available. Credit is dependent on the course. Registration gets under way Monday, March 20, and closes May 15. Enrollment is determined on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information, contact Michelle Bowen at [email protected] or call the school at (323) 461-3651.

Immaculate Heart Middle School will continue to offer an eclectic mix of programs for girls entering grades 4-8. Among the classes offered will be Arabic Language, open to grades 4 – 8, where students will be introduced to the Arabic alphabet and basic grammar structures; Art of Animation, open to grades 4 – 8, where students will learn how to create their very own hand-drawn animation; CSI/Forensic Science, open to grades 6 – 8, where students will learn how to analyze physical evidence, question witnesses, and other crime-solving techniques; Minerva Stage/Theatre Workshops, where students will learn how to put on performances; and Panda Cafe/Cooking Workshops, open to grades 6 – 8, where students will learn how to cook, bake, and keep a kitchen clean.

The Middle School’s summer session starts June 19 and ends July 14. One, two and four-week classes are available. Registration is now open and will close on May 31. Those interested can enroll online by visiting Immaculate Heart’s website, www.immaculateheart.org, and viewing the Middle School’s summer school page.
