An 1886 Folk Victorian house listed on the National Register of Historic Places is on the market for the first time in 40 years for $1.395 million.

The 2,117-square-foot house was originally built for Mrs. J.H. Hood on Colorado Court. It was bought by Former Pasadena Mayor (1895 to 1896) John S. Cox in 1901 and was moved to its current location in 494 Ellis Street.

The property, which was said to embody “the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, or method of construction or represents the work of a master, or possesses high artistic values,” has a design that features Folk Victorian style with Queen Anne influences.

Although the listing says “the current owner has painstakingly restored this once all redwood home to much of its past glory,” the project was not completed and the residence “will require some TLC to finish.”

The property has an 8,914-square-foot lot, three bedrooms, two and one-quarter baths, hardwood floors, intricate wood detailing, a Batchelder fireplace, rebuilt chimney, double-hung windows, a large porch, and a detached garage that could fit a maximum of seven cars. The house also includes some Queen Anne features such as bordered glass windows with colored lights and decorative sills.

The driveway that runs from the street to the garage is is made of decomposed granite. The foundation of the house is composed of stone and concrete, its walls are made of wood and its roof is constructed with asphalt.
