86 Caroline D. Bradley Scholars, 18 alumni and 97 parents from across the country will meet in Pasadena March 10-12 for a weekend of community, character development and personal growth, hosted by the Institute for Educational Advancement (IEA). The event will feature a presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Patty Gatto-Walden, licensed psychologist specializing in the needs of gifted children and their families.

The theme of the 2017 Seminar is “Listen Up!”, which will explore the theme of listening to ourselves, others and the world through sharing open dialogue and diverse perspectives. Activities will include expert speakers, cross-generational discussions, college and career guidance and tours of Los Angeles-area attractions. Additionally, the Seminar will honor the tenth class of graduating Caroline D. Bradley Scholars, with individual speeches by the high school seniors reflecting on their experiences as Scholars and soon-to-be graduates.

IEA has created a community for gifted students seeking understanding of their intellectual and creative gifts. IEA is national nonprofit committed to the whole child by matching highly able children with customized educational programs and services designed to foster intellectual, social, emotional, spiritual and physical growth.

IEA’s Caroline D. Bradley Scholarship began in 2002 and awards highly gifted applicants with a four-year scholarship to a high school that fits their individual intellectual and personal needs. The Scholarship has provided 235 Scholars from across the country the opportunity to attend independent, parochial, day, boarding, charter and alternative high schools throughout the United States. The annual Bradley Seminar brings together Caroline D. Bradley Scholars, their parents, alumni and educators from across the nation. The Seminar is designed for participants to expand their knowledge base, engage in cross-generational conversations, develop meaningful relationships with others to whom they can relate, explore new perspectives and gain skills which promote personal character. The Bradley Seminar is funded by The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.
