The California Art League is excited to announce its latest show, Short Stories, a small works exhibit featuring original works of art in oil, acrylic, mixed media and sculpture. The show is sponsored by the Women’s City Club of Pasadena and can be viewed at the Historic Blinn House, 160 North Oakland Avenue, Pasadena, from December 6, 2014 through March 5, 2015. All works are available for purchase.

The Opening Reception and Awards Presentation is scheduled for Saturday, December 13 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. with refreshments and a no-host bar. The reception is free and all members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Abstract painter Barbara Kerwin curated the exhibit. Ms. Kerwin uses a variety of media and focuses on achieving balance through her use of proportion and measurement. Art Critic and Historian Dr. Betty Brown summed up Kerwin’s work by saying “[She] creates paintings that point beyond the visible world. They function as quiet meditations on balance, harmony, beauty, and the enduring order of the universe.” Ms. Kerwin lives and works in Los Angeles, and has been featured in over 100 exhibitions.

The California Art League (CAL) serves a membership of highly accomplished artists from the Greater Los Angeles area as well as throughout the United States and Canada. Members are juried into the organization and work in a wide variety of media, producing works of all forms, from the abstract to more traditional fine art. About the Historic Blinn House

The home was built for Edmund Blinn, an Oak Park , IL native who moved to California and made a fortune in the lumber business. In 1905 Blinn hired popular Chicago architect, George Washington Maher, to design his California home in the Midwestern Prairie School Style. The result was a stunning home featuring a wisteria vine motif throughout. This is particularly evident in the Tiffany-inspired windows, the fireplace mosaic and the stained glass of the broken arch windows.

The Blinn House was designated a Pasadena Cultural Heritage Landmark in 1977. It has been home to the Women’s City Club since 1945 and continues to serve the Pasadena community as a meeting place for civic, cultural, and educational activities. It was recently placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
