Beyonce – who will be performing in Pasadena this Saturday – has announced her Formation World Tour is so popular she will be returning to Southern California to perform in Dodger Stadium for the first time in September after she returns from the European leg of the series.
Live Nation and Parkwood Entertainment have said demand has driven the additional dates.
While that’s good news for Beyoncé’s fans, the announcement shines a light on the Rose Bowl’s battle with competing local venues as the concert wars erupt across Southern California.
Last week, the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California announced a new classic rock festival set for October 7 through 9 that bills Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, the Who and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.
Beyoncé Saturday Rose Bowl performance comes as her “Lemonade” album is on fire: Debuting at Number 1 and selling 653,000 units has made her the first recording artist to hit number one with each of their first six albums.
On the tour’s opening day in late April, Beyoncé unveiled “Boycott Beyoncé” T-shirts for $45 at her merchandise booths. The tees were a twirl on her haters, says a report on U.S. Weekly magazine.
The tees were sold alongside other pieces, including a “Slay All Day” tee, also $45, and a bomber jacket with the tour’s lotus flower symbol on the back for $150.
Before Pasadena, “Formation,” the singer’s first solo world tour since 2013, will be at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego Friday, May 12, and will be at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on May 16.
The European leg of the tour will start on June 28 in Sunderland, United Kingdom, after which she will return to California.
The ticket reservation link on Beyoncé’s website says tickets, which started selling February 16, have been sold out for the Pasadena leg since the first week on sale.
