“We’ve been able to reach out to families in need,” said Rhonda Newborg, Vice President of Member Services at the Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union. “It’s really what the credit union does – we reach in to communities and help people.”

The Pasadena Service Federal Credit Union has three local branches – Covina, Pasadena and Vernon. The credit union collaborated with the El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce to arrange these anonymous holiday gifts for a family in need. They received gift cards to grocery stores, warm clothes, skinny jeans and monetary donations.

“It shows that somebody cares about them and it’s perfect this time of year,” said Christine Knight, Director of Membership and Marketing at the El Monte/South El Monte Chamber of Commerce.

El Monte is the approximate center of the credit union’s membership area and described as the “gateway to the San Gabriel Valley.” The gifts will be presented to the family at the Mountain View School District in time for Christmas.

“I want you to know how impactful this is to our community – it’s one family but it affects our whole community,” said Lillian Maldonado French, Mountain View School District Superintendent. “It’s a joyous time of the year but, when there’s need at home, it can be difficult.”

The credit union will continue to serve as a resource for local families by providing financial literacy classes on credit scores, budgeting and loans in both Spanish and English.
