The YWCA of Pasadena-Foothill Valley hosted their 5th annual Leadership Celebration and Networking Day to promote women’s accomplishments and participation in the community and politics. The theme “We Have the Power” resonated loud and clear with the six influential women speakers and audience of women leaders.
“Today we’re sharing our personal stories and advice [about] what it means for a woman to get involved,” said Susanne Whatley, news anchor of KPCC who emceed the event. She also asked for responses from the audience and guest speakers.
Guest speakers included Joy Chen – Author and former Deputy Mayor of Los Angeles; Lena Kennedy – CEO of LL Kennedy & Associates and Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee, Stephanie Molen – Director of Partnerships at the Coalition Against Slavery & Trafficking (CAST); and Marta Segura – CEO and Founder for Grassroots Organizational Leadership and Development (GOLD). Each woman shared her experiences working in the community and encouraging other women to raise their political voices.
“We have the power,” said Miriam Burbano, LA Metro Chapter President of the National Women’s Political Caucus. “You need to know what you can contribute to society.”
