Villa Esperanza Guild held their 16th annual ‘A Day of Thoroughbred Racing’ benefiting Villa Esperanza Services on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Over 170 guests joined together at the Santa Anita Racetrack, Club House Terrace and enjoyed lunch, raffle and prize drawings in addition to a fantastic day of racing. The event generated over $55,000 to support Villa’s Hjelte-Phillips Speech and Language Center and Residential and Independent Living programs.
Villa would like to thank and acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the Guild members for coordinating this event each year. They also wish to thank Tom and Mary Bristow of the UPS Store for donating postage for the event. The Villa Esperanza Guild was formed in 1968 to increase awareness of the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Chairing this year’s event was Anne Letton of San Marino. The Benefit Committee included Guild President Linda Matsuno-Parmenter and Sally Irving of San Gabriel, Barbara Jameson and Georgene Neely of San Marino, Judi Moore of Bradbury, Volunteers for the event included high school students from Mayfield Senior High School and Westridge School of Pasadena.
Villa Esperanza Services was founded in 1961 by a group of mothers who believed their developmentally disabled children deserved quality care and education. Today, Villa serves 600 individuals with disabilities and their families in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
