National Bagel Day is February 9 and it’s a holiday for the masses — whether you like bagels for breakfast, lunch or even dinner — this holiday is just another reason to grab a toasty round.
Pasadena may not have a dedicated bagel bakery — yet — but there’s only one place you’ll want to go for your bagel fix on when the big day arrives. Union Street Sandwich Co. is a community-oriented, insanely fresh bakery and cafe with everything you could ask for — including homemade cookies and free WiFi.
“The feeling here is that it should be a community place. I love the area here — the neighborhood has been really supportive, it’s like a big hug here,” said Stacy Ober, the owner of Union Street Sandwich Co.
Ober leaves no loaf unbuttered in her search for the freshest, local ingredients and follows through on her commitment to making food “the way it’s supposed to taste.”
From slow-roasted brisket made with a family recipe to deliriously fresh tomatoes, creamy mozzarella and toasty bagels, Ober cares about fresh food.
“The theme here is ‘eat well and feel good.’ Someone once told me that ‘the tomato really tastes like a tomato,’ that’s really my goal,” she said.
Ober makes a point to use locally made ingredients from food artisans like M. Greenwood jams and Spread the Love peanut butter.
Enjoy a classic PB & J bagel or a bagel piled high with Nova lox, red onion, tomatoes, cream cheese and capers. Don’t be afraid to ask for bagel suggestions, Ober is more than willing to curate a menu for you.
Happy toasting!
