State and federal agencies can provide vital resources to young adults with disabilities. Two experts from Disability Rights California will help families access services and support from two of those agencies–the state Department of Rehabilitation and the Social Security Administration–during a presentation at The Frostig Center on Tuesday, February 23.

The Department of Rehabilitation provides employment services to people of working age while Social Security offers income support to people with disabilities who have limited income.

Rebecca Hoyt and Jerri Ward will review the programs and explain eligibility requirements and application processes. Their discussion will be geared toward families with high school students who are preparing for adulthood. Families with younger children who want to look ahead, as well as teachers and therapists who work with children with special needs, will also benefit from the presentation.

Jennifer Quirina-White, director of transitions services at Frostig School, will facilitate a Q&A period immediately after the presentation. “It can be very difficult for a family to navigate a government website and fully understand what kind of support their child can receive,” Ms. Quirina-White said. “Ms. Hoyt and Ms. Ward will provide information and resources to assist families in understanding these systems.”

The presentation begins at 3:30 p.m. in Gates Hall at The Frostig Center. Admission is free.
