Bikram Yoga is hot hot hot. No, literally it is hot. The class is held in studios heated to over 100 degrees. Bikram Yoga is not your traditional yoga and before you decide to take a class you should be aware of a few things.

You can do it. If you have a medical condition talk to a doctor but, all shapes and sizes can participate in Bikram Yoga. Val of Bikram Pasadena said “Our community is so amazing [because) of our diverse and inclusive community. I think we have been successful for so long because people enjoy the friendly atmosphere that encourages everyone to have a positive and healing experience.” Make sure to hydrate well before you go to class. In addition to water, eat plenty of veggies and fruits to replenish your minerals and electrolytes. Eat something several hours before class but come to class on an empty stomach. You wouldn’t want to eat a big greasy meal and the sit in the hot sun right? That same idea applies when going to a Bikram Yoga class.

Don’t fight the heat. If you spend the whole session thinking about the heat you will be miserable. Instead, listen to the instructor’s direction and concentrate on your breathing, and come back as soon as you can as regular practice helps you quickly acclimate to the heat and helps you start receiving the benefits of this amazing yoga system.
