This Monday marks the start of a new year on the Chinese zodiac calendar. The Year of the Monkey is upon us! Enjoy traditional foods like noodles, taro and Mandarin oranges to ensure prosperity this new year here in Pasadena.
P.F Chang’s, a Chinese restaurant chain in Paseo Colorado, is celebrating with two new, symbolic menu items. Their Prawns and Long Life Noodles are thought to guarantee a long life and bring success to diners. Crispy prawns sit atop a bed of soft noodles, seasoned with garlic, ginger, peppers and flavorful black beans.
On the sweeter side, there is a refreshing Mandarin Sponge Cake with vanilla cream and delicate layers of Mandarin oranges, sprinkled with mint leaves.
Finish the meal with a Mandarin Monkey Mule. This playful take on a Moscow mule combines Monkey Shoulder Whiskey, ginger beer, peach syrup, seltzer and a touch of orange for a zingy drink.
Perhaps the best part of this new menu is that P.F Chang’s will donate $1 from every new dish and each use of the hashtag: #PFChangsWish to the Boys and Girl’s Club of America.
If dessert is more your style, celebrate with some Asian pastries and Taiwanese boba to ring in a prosperous new year.
Taro, or purple yam, is a popular food during the new year. This sweet vegetable is made into taro cake and also blended into taro boba drinks. Enjoy this pastel-hued dessert for the Year of the Monkey.
