The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) invites students and families to attend the 2014 College Fair & Career Pathways Showcase Wednesday, October 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pasadena Convention Center. More than 100 colleges, universities and technical schools will be present along with important information about financial aid and NCAA athletic requirements. PUSD high school pathway teachers and students will also be there to share career academy achievements and experiences. The event is free and open to the public, serving as a forum for students and families to become better acquainted with the educational and extracurricular opportunities participating institutions can offer.
The theme of this year’s event is “Taking Steps Toward My Future,” with the hope that all students in Pasadena and surrounding areas attend and begin to plan for life after high school. Middle and high school students from across the region, especially high school juniors and seniors, are invited to attend and meet the college representatives from all University of California schools and most California State Universities as well as numerous private and independent colleges. There will also be seminars useful for those thinking about the next phase of their life with the diverse topics “Using the Secrets of Screenwriting to Write Your College Essay” and “Navigating the College Process.”
PUSD’s Career Pathway Academies connect academics to real-world applications by integrating challenging instruction with a demanding project-based technical curriculum. Students explore the workplace, build experience and develop mentoring relationships with members of Pasadena-area Business Advisory Councils. High school academies include the Academy for Creative Industries, Arts, Entertainment and Media, Building & Design, Business & Entrepreneurship, Creative Arts & Design, Culinary Arts & Hospitality, Engineering & Environmental Science, Health Careers, Law & Public Service and the App Academy (mobile, web and game development). Students apply to academies during open enrollment which takes place early in January.
Parents and community with additional questions should call (626) 396-3600, extension 88423 or email [email protected] for more information.
