For over 10 years, San Marino Seafood has been serving up its clients with plates of superb seafood, guaranteed fresh from their sources.
The idea for the restaurant came about when founders Jeff Norris and George Banks could not find an authentic source of fresh seafood in local markets and restaurants.
Since then, San Marino Seafood has evolved from a fish market and restaurant business to one of the most popular dining destinations in the San Marino area.
“It was my dad who opened it up originally in 2003, because there [was] no fresh, quality seafood in town, as far as the market and the restaurant goes,” said Basil Banks of San Marino Seafood. “It was more of a casual dine in and [it has] developed into sit down, and then we went from there.”
The restaurant likes to take a fresh approach to their dishes, in contrast to fried fish joints.
“All the fish is charbroiled and we do sauté scallops and shrimp. The only fish we fry is the fish and chips.”
They also try to focus on variety, flying in fish from all over the world.
“The Sea Bass we use as a Bluenose Sea Bass from New Zealand. It’s actually flown in. They ship it in from the airport. We get our Salmon and Red Snapper is from Canada; the Ahi tuna is from Fiji, most of the time, and sometimes from Philippines.”
From traditional seafood dishes to new favorites, San Marino Seafood has a variety of not only fish but ways to serve it.
“The seared Ahi sandwich is one of top sellers during lunchtime and Sea Bass sandwiches are really popular. Seared Ahi, shrimp quesadillas, those are really popular too, as far as appetizers go.”
The menu also features soups, salads, fresh sides, and even oysters and sashimi!
“We’re really known for our clam chowders, all of our dressings are made from scratch on the premises. Our chowders are homemade as well.”
