Alicia Clark, past president of the San Marino Guild, announced at a Guild luncheon that she would donate one Bilichek Bilirubin Measurement Device to the Huntington Hospital on behalf of the Guild. This generous gift would become part of the San Marino Guild’s 2015 pledge to the hospital for the Newborn Nursery and for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
This non-invasive system diagnoses in a short time a newborn’s risk of jaundice. It allows measurements to be taken through the skin on the forehead, rather than by repeated needle pricks on the baby’s heal to get blood samples.
Mrs. Clark and her husband Edward are thrilled to donate this high tech device which will lessen the possibility of infection, of trauma, and of pain. If bilirubin levels are too high, there are rare, but serious complications, such as deafness or brain damage.
The San Marino Guild has supported the hospital for 64 years. Through its fundraising efforts, this volunteer group has purchased special equipment to support the Neonatal, Maternity and Pediatric units.
