A San Marino middle school student has won an Award of Merit from the California PTA for his photograph of white clouds against a brilliant blue sky.
Dominic Aloe shot his prize-winning picture from the playground of Frostig School, where he enjoys an after-school art class. His instructor, Frostig art teacher Jessica Monares-Jimenez, has been helping Dominic develop his passion for photography while also introducing him to painting, drawing and sculpture.
“Dominic loves his art class and photography,” his mother, Noelle Aloe said. “We are thrilled he has been recognized for doing something he loves.”
Dominic entered his photograph, “Puffy Clouds, Blue Sky,” in the PTA’s national Reflections Art Program, which was established in 1969 to increase community awareness of the importance of arts in education. Dominic was one of eight Award of Merit winners in PTA District 1, which stretches from Burbank to Pomona.
Frostig School, located in Pasadena, offers an after-school tutoring and enrichment program that is open to students attending schools throughout the area. Ms. Monares-Jimenez works with individuals and small groups, teaching ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing and other genres, depending on the child’s interests.
The after-school program also provides tutoring and homework support, as well as classes in music, dance and filmmaking. For more information, visit www.frostigschool.org or call (626) 791-1255.
