Pasadena’s Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. announced today it donated $50,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Fires Appeal in response to the devastating fires surrounding Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.

According to the Red Cross, the donations received will be used to provide relief for those affected in the form of emergency food, clothing, shelter, personal services and other necessities that assist with recovery and resiliency.

“Jacobs has been a proud member of the Fort McMurray community for decades. We know the impact this will have on our industry, but more importantly, the people who drive the industry,” said President, Industrial and Field Services Robert Pragada. “Our thoughts go out to our colleagues and all those affected by the devastating Alberta wildfires.”

At the time of the initial evacuation, which began two weeks ago, the company employed 400 individuals who called Fort McMurray home. With an office in Fort McMurray and presence at four industrial sites, at peak intervals Jacobs employs nearly 2,000 people in the region.

According to recent news reports, more than 90,000 people have been affected and the fire is still growing beyond 423,000 hectares. Relief efforts in the region are ongoing as the fight to contain the fire continues.
