November is the month of thanks and giving. Local businesses in the Pasadena community are gathering together and giving back in a big way. Championed by the local eating establishment, Pasadena Sandwich Company, this is the 3rd annual Share A Meal event, where 300 children and adults from the Pasadena Families in Transition, will enjoy a wonderful, warm, sit-down, Thanksgiving meal, served with all the trimmings.
This day is all about the families. This event is all about community. Giving Back partners, ranging from the Pasadena Fire Department, to local dentists, to retail stores, to arts and entertainment organizations, are donating food and other much-needed items for these families. Some items are necessities; others are enjoyment; all are welcome and appreciated.
In addition to the meal and arts and crafts activities, this year, the children will also have the opportunity to ‘shop’ for new backpacks and school supplies. One of the main reasons children of lower income families drop out of school is because they lack the necessary school supplies. Sydney Paige, Inc., a Buy One | Give One company is built on the foundation of education as self-empowerment for a better future. For every product purchased, another is donated to a student in need, with the goal of helping children stay in school and graduate … one child at a time. Sydney Paige will be donating backpacks and school supplies for each of the children on Thanksgiving Day. If you would like to support this effort, you can visit http://www.sydneypaigeinc.com, or stop by the Pasadena Sandwich Company on Saturdays in November.
Socorro Rocha, head of Pasadena Families in Transition, comments, “This is a wonderful day for these families. I am excited that this year, in addition to a warm and plentiful meal, all of the children will also get a new backpack and school supplies, donated by our Giving Back Together partner, Sydney Paige Inc.“
Working with the Pasadena Unified School District and the Pasadena Education Foundation, Sydney Paige, Inc. is able to reach more students, both giving and receiving, than any one group could do on their own. Giving back together is what it’s all about.
