This year’s Academic Decathlon topic was World War I. In sessions held over two Saturdays, the students delivered speeches, wrote essays, took multiple choice tests and participated in interviews. The final event, The Super Quiz, was held on Saturday, February 1st at USC’s Galen Center. Approximately 500 students representing 42 public high schools from around Los Angeles County participated in the Super Quiz. Each high school team includes students with A, B and C grade point averages.

The game show-style quiz requires the teams of nine to answer three dozen multiple choice questions on various subjects. Students had seven seconds to punch in their answers on hand held electronic devices..

The team from Pasadena High School competes in Division Two and includes 9 team members and two alternates. Mary Hines is the coach.

The entire Pasadena High School team of nine members and the coach each won a medal for placing third in the Super Quiz event and brought home a 3rd place trophy. We are especially proud of this Super Quiz award. It was a first for Pasadena High School. In terms of points, overall scoring, we placed higher than La Canada High School, Monrovia High School, West Covina High School and Azusa High School.
