Chief Bertral Washington will be honored at the Bridge Builders Foundations 35th Annual Salute and Scholarship Banquet.
Chief Washington will receive the Manhood Award for efforts throughout his career to help underrepresented populations in the fire service become successful in becoming a firefighter and progressing through the profession. The honorees will receive their awards at the Bridge Builders Foundation’s 35th Annual Salute and Scholarship Awards Banquet at the Torrance Doubletree Hotel on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 6-9PM.
The Bridge Builders Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit public corporation that operates the Omega Youth Mentoring & Tutoring Program, the EE Just Marine Science Program and Science Academy and the Bridge Builders Scholars Program. The Salute & Scholarship Banquet is an annual celebration of achievement and hope. At the banquet, the Bridge Builders Foundation will award new and continuing scholarships to graduating high school seniors and continuing college students in their Scholars Program.
According to Foundation President Wayne Moore, “we want to recognize leadership and achievement as well as sow seeds and cultivate the hopes and dreams of our young black men and boys”. Since 1999 the Foundation has awarded over $550,000 in scholarships supporting high achieving young men such as 2017 Rhodes Scholar Caylin L. Moore.
