National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $30 million in grants as part of the NEA’s first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $40,000 to Pasadena Arts Council for the AxS Festival. The Art Works category focuses on the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.
“The arts are for all of us, and by supporting organizations such as Pasadena Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts is providing more opportunities for the public to engage with the arts,” said NEA Chairman Jane Chu. “Whether in a theater, a town square, a museum, or a hospital, the arts are everywhere and make our lives richer.”
“We are honored to receive the recognition and support of the NEA.” remarks PAC Executive and Artistic Director Robert Crouch. “This award means so much to us and the artists we serve, further allowing PAC to provide opportunities for artists to have meaningful engagement and dialogue with the sciences here in Pasadena.”
The AxS Festival is a 2-week event of multi-disciplinary programs exploring intersections of art and science as powerful engines of culture. Partnering with over a dozen arts and science institutions, AxS is produced by Pasadena Arts Council. It includes visual art, theater, dance, music, spoken word, photography, history, science, literature, film, and architecture, at venues across the city. PAC commissions exhibitions, performances, and education to further define its curatorial mission to address artistic and social implications of art and science, fostering new forms and intellectual dialogue.
Dates, locations, and programs for the next AxS Festival will be announced in early 2017.
