The PasadenaAltadena Chapter of The Links, Inc. recently awarded 13 local high school seniors and 3 college students scholarships for a total of $20,500 as part of the organization’s 27th Annual Isaac McClelland Memorial Scholarship Program. The scholarship program was launched in memory of distinguished AfricanAmerican Los Angeles City Schools Area Superintendent, the late Isaac McClelland.
The scholarships were awarded at an elegant afternoon reception at Pasadena City College’s Creveling Lounge. Special guests included: PUSD School Board President, Elizabeth Pomoroy? PUSD Principals: Tim Sippel, John Muir High School? Trudell Skinner, Blair IB High School? Mark Anderson, Marshall Fundamental as well as the family and teachers of the honored students. Scholarship recipients will be attending such notable institutions as UCLA, UCSB, University of Arizona, Cal State LA and local Community Colleges.
One of the scholarships, cosponsored by Southern California Edison, for $5,000 was provided to students who have designated they will enter college with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Memorial scholarships honored two dearly departed members of the chapter, Jacqueline “Jackie” Howard and Dr. Claudia Alexander.
