Pacific Oaks College will hold a forum on the importance of its African American Family Studies Program in empowering communities on Thursday, October 3, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Assistant Professor Bree Davis will discuss how the program utilizes the strengths of the African American family based on the principle of “Ujima,” which means “collective work and responsibility.”
“The culture centered approach is the basis for a collective, cohort-based learning experience and pedagogical model for culturally relevant curriculum,” Pasadena oaks said in a statement. “The program seeks to recruit, educate and develop mental health professionals who possess cultural sensitivity and a clear, in-depth understanding of the specific mental health needs of the African American community.”
To reserve, email Sheree Hawkins at [email protected].
The forum will be held in Classroom 4, Building 45, Pacific Oaks College located at 45 Eureka Street.
