January 11 to 15 is Cheeseburger Week, so bid your 2015 diet resolutions adieu for a few days!

Pasadena has been celebrated as the official birthplace of the cheeseburger, crediting Lionel Sternberger as the first to add cheese to his patty back in 1924 at Rite Spot on W. Colorado Blvd.

2015’s festivities will bring together over 35 of the city’s best restaurants, lounges, and burger joints to feature their signature burgers, special creations, and deals. The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce will host the event, featuring cheeseburger crawls and cheeseburger challenges, among other thrilling activities.

Also featured in January’s celebration is the Cheeseburger Challenge, in which you can vote for your favorites, whether it’s a lunch counter burger, turkey burger, veggie burger, or beverage burger partner.

The festivities now have an official theme song titled “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” a song by Jimmy Buffett, who was inspired by his boat journey to the Caribbean. Whilst subsisting on canned food and peanut butter, Buffett imagined feasting on a “piping hot cheeseburger” and was surprised to find a restaurant serving American cheeseburgers upon setting foot in Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.
