Sushi, anyone?

Sugarfish, the popular sushi chain with locations in Brentwood, Santa Monica, Downtown, and Marina del Rey, is spreading roots to Pasadena. Managed by the Sushi Nozawa guys, this restaurant, set to open on South Lake Avenue, is a favorite for their gorgeous take-out bento boxes and killer sushi rolls.

Chefs Tom Nozawa and Chef Kazunori Nozawa are known for their signature Nozawa-style sushi, which is based on these principles: getting the best fish every morning; the flavor and texture of the fish must be simple and balanced; sushi should not be stringy, chewy, tough, or fishy; and rice should be warm and loosely packed so it melts in the mouth.

sugarfish 1Sugarfish offers individual rolls and Trust Me set meals, starting at $17. Included is organic edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore sushi, salmon sushi, yellowtail sushi, halibut sushi, toro hand roll, and blue crab handroll. Add $10, and you get the Nozuwa Trust Me, which includes all the sushi from the Trust Me set with two pieces of the Daily Specials.

If you’re more into the traditional pick-and-choose format, you can order from the a la carte menu, including Sashimi + Edamame to Sushi (two pieces per order), to Rolls, like cucumber, toro “fatty” tuna, salmon, bay scallop, and lobster.

What goes better with sushi other than sake and Japanese beer? Sugarfish also serves drinks like Sapporo, Sapporo Reserve, super dry sake Nozawa, unfiltered sake Nigori, dry sake Ryo, and Hakkaisan.

No more commuting to the West Side for Sugarfish!  We’ll keep you updated on their opening date so you can get your sushi on ASAP.
