Poke (pronounced as “POH-keh”) is a Hawaiian verb for “to slice or cut,” and refers to the traditional raw fish salad from Hawaii. Available in restaurants like Mainland Poke and Poke N Roll, it’s fast becoming one of LA’s hottest culinary trends.

Keen to try this authentic Hawaiian fare? Then it’s time to head to the Spinfish Poke House, now in our ‘hood!

Founded by friends who fell in love with Hawaii and poke, the restaurant serves creative versions of this dish: the Aloha 808 with sesame shoyu, ogo limu, Hawaiian sea salt, chili flake, green onion, and sweet onion; Banzai which features avocado and green onion, and drizzled with ponzu; or the So Frache with wasabi crème, cilantro, citrus zest, panko, and sweet onion.

Diners can even customize their own poke dish. Simply select a base (white rice, brown rice, mixed greens, or chilled rice noodles), choose your fish (ahi tuna, salmon, or Hamachi), pick a sauce (ponzu, sweet shoyu, sweet chili sauce, ginger-scallion relish, wasabi crème, and chili-lime sauce), and add toppings for more zest and flavor!

We’re excited to try their fresh, creative poke bowls and will share our favorites (and photos!) soon.
