Tour Director Jim Kroeger of the Santa Anita A’s, a car club organized for the enjoyment of the Model A Ford, helped arrange an event called “Driving Miss Daisy” to raise funds for The Shakespeare Club. On Saturday morning, June 11, 2016, eight drivers dressed as proper chauffeurs parked their Model A Fords in front of the grand front doors.
As the ladies (and some husbands) strolled into the parking lot, many were dressed in hats and vintage looks. Everyone was able to ride in the car of their own choosing though a street route of Pasadena’s architectural highlights, arriving at the 1891 jam factory in Sierra Madre for a very interesting private tour. Although a heavy mist turned to rain, even the ladies riding in rumble seats continued to have a wonderful time, enjoyed waving like Queens on parade, and hearing the aah-ohh-ga horns in tunnels made them laugh.
The Shakespeare Club, established in 1888 as the first women’s club in Southern California, enjoys a legacy of civic contribution and philanthropic work, as well as many social activities and long friendships. Inquiries regarding membership are always welcomed.
