Summertime is coming and while having a pool can be a relief and huge asset, it’s also a big responsibility.  Each year, 372,000 people ww 2die from drowning and the number two cause of death for children ages 14 and younger is drowning.

That’s why Waterworks Aquatics is celebrating Water Safety Week from May 11th to 17th to create awareness and help save people’s lives.

“May is National Water Safety Month. One of our primary goals at Waterworks Aquatics is to teach water safety and provide the tools and skills in order for our students to become sage, confident swimmers,” say the organizers from Waterworks.

Throughout this week, Waterworks Aquatics is encouraging every one to sign up for swimming lessons and come to class wearing non-swimming clothes! Most accidents occur when play is not taking place in a pool, so the ability to swim in your clothes is very important.

Here are some safety tips from Waterworks to help prevent drowning at home, so everyone can get in on water safety month:

  1. Send your kids to swimming lessons at an early age.
  2. Always designate someone to supervise who has not been drinking.
  3. Fence off bodies of water deeper than 2 ft.
  4. If kids are missing, check the pool first.
  5. Learn CPR.

ww 4Learning to swim is truly important. To further champion the cause, Waterworks will also host the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on June 18th, so sign up by June 5th here.

And if you sign up for the swim competition on May 16th, your $5 enrollment fee will be donated to Swim for Life Foundation.

Another exciting event to go to is the Family Swim Night on Saturday, May 23rd, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. It will be a fun family affair—there will be inflatable pool toys for the kids, party music over the pool deck sound system, and games. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase all night. Sign up here.
