LACC-Concert Choir 530 by Lee Salem

Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC) presents its popular Winter Concert, featuring classical and holiday music, on two consecutive Sundays, December 4 and 11, 2016, 7 pm, at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. The eclectic program illuminates works by Vivaldi, Holst, Britten and Bach, composers who greatly impacted and expanded children’s choral repertoire and taught and conducted children themselves.

The chorus performs Bach’s Schaffe koennen (Sheep May Safely Graze); Et exultavit from Vivaldi’s Magnificat; Deo Gracias from Britten’s beloved Ceremony of Carols; and Hymn to the Waters and Hymn to the Dawn from Holst’s Rig Veda, a collection of hymns inspired by the composer’s interest in Sanskrit and Hindu religion and poetry. Also featured are Ko Matsushito’s Dona Nobis Pacem, which LACC performed on its tour to Japan last summer; Handel’s Then Will I Jehovah’s Praise and Art Thou Troubled; the Bolivian Lullaby Duermete, Mi Corzason; Canto de Pilon, a traditional Venezuelan song arranged by Cristian Grases; Brahms’ Der Gang zum Liebchen; Mendelssohn’s Abendlied; and the African folksong Thula Klizeo. Adding holiday cheer to the program are the traditional French carol Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella; Edmund Walters’ The Cuckoo Carol; S’vivon, a traditional Chanukah song; the English carol Masters in this Hall; and This Christmastide by British Academy Award-winning composer Donald

LACC Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson conducts the chorus’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers. Associate Artistic Director Mandy Brigham leads the Intermediate Choir, Diana Landis leads the Apprentice Choir, and Dr. Steven Kronauer conducts the Young Men’s Ensemble. The choirs perform separately and combined.
