The Trojan War, the Mother of all Western Wars, spawned the Mother of all Western Literature. What if, at the dawn of western history, there had been no epic poem of the glory of war, but rather a passionate plea made by a warrior for a story of peace? What would have happened had the Trojan War been avoided? Could it have been avoided? In La Salle’s production of Tiger At The Gates (originally titled The Trojan War Will Not Take Place) the Gate Of War is omnipresent, threatening to open at any time, because war is always threatening. and peace is always longed for.
A total of 40 students are participating as cast and crew. Seniors involved in the production are Jewelyn Pickett, Rebecca Whitehead, Max, DoVale, Ellis Holland, Aly Hartman, Sebastian Beltran-Moeller, Catherine Dewar, Chris Dinkel, Mihi Stanek, Michelle Broussard, and Dylan Stover. Students are working to address the questions posed by the play by creating a multi-media presentation, incorporating music, images, text and video in the retelling of the story.
Tiger at the Gates opened on November 11th and plays weekends through November 19th with a free performance on November 18th at 5:00 p.m. at Porticos Arts Space (2033 E. Washington Blvd.) in Pasadena. Call (626) 696-4415 for further information and reservations.
