Purim is arguably the most fun of all the Jewish holidays – it falls on March 23 this year. This holiday is a food and drink-centric celebration of the defeat of Haman’s plot to massacre the Jews by Queen Esther.

Hamentaschen is one of the traditional foods for Purim. These triangular pastry is filled with poppy seeds and other sweet fillings to represent hidden miracles.

According to Chabad.org, the three corners of the pastry represent the three corner hat that Haman was thought to have worn. As a celebration of his defeat, these pastries are called “Haman weakeners (tashen).”

If you’re not feeling up to making your own hamentaschen, you can pick some up at Whole Foods Market on 465 South Arroyo Parkway.
