You are what you eat. That saying is more than just an old adage to the folks at the latest juice bar in Pasadena, it’s a way of life.
Aasia Kinney, the President of Juice Lab 360, explains how she landed in the fascinating world of juicing. After a knee surgery left her with recurring prescriptions for pain medication and anti-inflammatories, she decided to take her health into her own hands and make food her medicine.
“The more I learned, the more intrigued I became and [my interest] just ballooned from there,” she said.
With her newfound passion for juicing and love of teaching, Kinney decided that opening a juice bar would help spread the word and health benefits to the Pasadena community. She plans to host in-store juicing demos and work with local schools and the community garden to make health through produce a priority.
“If people would try it, they would see it’s not that hard,” she said. Juice Lab offers daily samples of their salads, smoothies, juices and desserts so that people give plant-based food a chance.
Kinney explains that people are most surprised by the dairy-free Chocolate Avocado Mousse. This light yet rich dessert comes with a sprinkle of fresh gogi berries and coconut flakes. Her personal favorite dessert is the Pumpkin Cheesecake and Chocolate brownies are also in the works.
“I think people are catching on,” she said. All you need is an open mind and curious palate.
