The California Philharmonic Orchestra’s season finale will showcase excerpts from three Broadway musicals—”Chicago,” Cats” and Evita”—as well as “Bolero,” the classical music’s “sexiest masterpiece,” at Santa Anita Race Track on Saturday, August 23, 7:30-10:15 p.m.
The audience will go on a journey with political leader Eva Peron from obscurity to becoming a legend in her own time through Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic musical “Evita.” Afterwards, join a tribe of cats called the Jellicles through another Webber classic, “Cats,” before viewing the longest-running musical revival in Broadway history, John Kander’s “Chicago.”
Baritone Randal Keith, who starred in “Les Miz” on Broadway and the National Tour, and Joan Almedilla, who known for starring in “Miss Saigon” on Broadway and both “Les Miz” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” on National Tour, will star in the three musicals at Santa Anita Race Track.
The orchestra led by Maestro Victor Vener will also present “Bolero,” a one-movement orchestral piece by French composer Maurice Ravel, which features Spanish rhythms with music from and inspired by Spain and Argentina.
The show will also highlight Emmanuel Chabrier’s “España,” considered as one of the most enchanting tone poems ever written. Leading flamenco and classical guitarist Adam Del Monte will also take the stage.
Admission ranges from $10 to $88. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.eventbrite.com/e/broadway-bolero-tickets-11545279241.
