On Sunday, March 8, 2015 the Blinn House Foundation, the Pasadena based non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the historic Edmund Blinn House, held a special reception at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Pasadena for financial supporters and prospective sponsors of the Foundation’s Kentucky Derby Day Garden Party to be held in May. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse hosted the event for the Foundation thanks to General Manager Linda Jordan.
Saturday, May 2, 2015 is the day for the “Run for the Roses†Kentucky Derby event at the Blinn House and gathered special supporters for this kick-off celebration. Nationally recognized Thoroughbred race horse trainer Ron Ellis enthralled the guests with stories of his own trips with his horses to the Derby and intrigued all with his insight into picking a champion horse and connecting with the animal to help it perform safely and powerfully. Former Assemblyman Anthony Portantino and renown local historical preservationist and architect Bill Ellinger, good friends of the Blinn House, were also in attendance.
Proceeds from the Derby Day garden party are earmarked for the restoration and preservation of the 1905 Prairie School-style Blinn House which is listed on National Register of Historic Places and designated Pasadena Landmark #16. The Blinn House, home of The Women’s City Club of Pasadena for over 70 years and host to over 20 non-profits in the Pasadena area, contributes to the San Gabriel Valley community by serving as a unique meeting place for numerous non-profit and civic organizations as well as an exhibitor of works of local artists.
